Mobile Number Portability

Those who do not yet know the mobile number portability (MNP) is a service whereby a mobile subscriber can move from one operator to another without having to change his mobile number. For example, you can choose to select services Voafone on your Airtel number or vice versa, courtesy MNP. As posted earlier, the mobile number portability already deployed for cellular customers in Rohtak, Haryana and will progressively be implemented in other countries that covers the entire nation, January 20, 2011.

Procedure for mobile number portability in India:

• Send SMS: PORT Mobile number (which was transferred) and 1900 for ex. PORT 9812345678

• After that the incumbent of a new operator to move the number up to 4 days.

As per Trai, any telecommunications operator to charge a maximum of Rs 19 towards carrying costs.
